The story behind the budget cuts

Last year during the budget process with the Board of Finance, the Library's budget was cut significantly. As a result, effective July 2007 - a Library Page position was eliminated, and two online resources had to be canceled. Also, due to these cuts, the Library became ineligible for a State Aid grant for libraries.

This year, the Library's budget was cut again. As a result, for fiscal year 2008/2009 - 2 staff positions were eliminated and hours of service were reduced. Cuts were also made to other areas of the Library Administration budget, as well as the Building Maintenance budget. The Library will not receive the State Aid grant again due to these cuts.

While the Library Board of Trustees regrets having to make these tough decisions, the Board and Library Staff remains committed to fulfilling the Library's Mission Statement: To provide the best possible informational, educational, cultural and recreational services in a warm and inviting environment.
