Special Collections

In edition to print and media collections for all ages, the following non-traditional library items are available for loan – puzzles, disc golf sets and pickle ball sets.

Accessibility

The Library strives to provide services to all patrons. For those with vision issues, we recommend trying our audiobook and large print book collections.  For additional resources, you may want to connect with Connecticut Library for Accessible Books (formerly Books for the blind: Connecticut Library For The Blind & Physically Handicapped).


History Room

The Library has a small historical materials collection housed in the History Room. Access to the collection is by staff only. It is not a browsing collection. Staff will retrieve requested materials for use at a designated space. Photocopying is limited and to be done by staff.

Some of the materials in the historical collection include: Thompson Cemetery Gravesites, Thompson Bicentennial Memory Book 1785-1985, Thompson Townwide Historical and Architectural Survey, Barbour History of Thompson 1785-1850 and Killingly 1785-1850 and local school yearbooks, assorted letters, news clippings, and other material.


Connecticut Collection

Featuring adult non-fiction books related to Connecticut.  Items in this collection can be checked out. Located in the oak bookcases near the Reference Desk.


Foreign Language Materials

Interested in Beginner Latin? Considered learning Chinese?? Our Foreign Language collection offers books, audio CDs and DVDs. Materials for adults & children are available. Located in the oak bookcases near the Reference Desk.


Parenting Collection

Be sure to check out our parenting collection of books and musical CDs conveniently located in the play corner. (Parenting/family magazines can be found in the main magazine section.) The offerings range from birth through the teenage years on a variety of topics.

  • College & Scholarship Information — Located in the Young Adult non-fiction collection.
  • Local/regional Information — Featuring brochures and handouts on a variety of topics… local history, arts & entertainment, tourism in the Quiet Corner and Connecticut. Located near the main entrance.
  • Chilton Car Manuals — Need help fixing an older vehicle? Our Chilton book collection may have the answer. Speak to a staff member for access.
