Special Collections

History Room

The Library has a small historical materials collection housed in the History Room. Access to the collection is by staff only. It is not a browsing collection. Staff will retrieve requested materials for use at a study table near the circulation desk or by the reference desk if staffed. Photocopying is limited and to be done by staff. Patrons may be asked to wear white cotton gloves supplied by the library when using certain materials.

Some of the materials in the historical collection include: Thompson Cemetery Gravesites, Thompson Bicentennial Memory Book 1785-1985, Thompson Townwide Historical and Architectural Survey, Barbour History of Thompson 1785-1850 and Killingly 1785-1850 and local school yearbooks, assorted letters, news clippings, and other material.


Connecticut Collection

All adult non-fiction books related to Connecticut are now shelved together. Items in this collection can be checked out. Located in the oak bookcases near the Reference Desk.


Accessibility

The Library strives to provide services to all patrons, including those with disabilities. For those with vision issues, we recommend our Audiobooks on CD and Large Print book collections. Borrow your favorite authors, New York Times Bestsellers, and discover new favorites.

Interested in Beginner Latin? Considered learning Chinese?? Our growing Foreign Language collection offers books, audio CDs and DVDs. Materials for adults & children are available. Located in the oak bookcases near the Reference Desk.


Parenting Collection

Be sure to check out our parenting collection of books, musical CDs and pamphlets which is conveniently located in the play corner. (Parenting/family magazines can be found in the main magazine section.) The offerings range from birth through the teenage years on a variety of topics.
